Testimony on Training

Alhamdulillah I learned a lot yesterday sebab assessing children’s language age ni memang penting untuk kids with disabilities. As a researcher I appreciate the part on psychometric properties of MPLAT sebab we want our teachers to use a valid tool. The workshop also allows me to get to know other professionals and their job scope. I will reflect upon the notes in my class next week

I have attended some of the research courses at LangIT and thought it was very beneficial for my research progress. LangIT was quite helpful when I needed some advice relating to research. I was able to discuss and exchange good ideas with the professors. Their help gave me further insight into being critical and seeing my flaws in research writing. Credible and professional coaches also teach the courses offered. They offer various programmes from time to time and I highly recommend LangIT to all student of knowledge who would like to improve in their research skills.

Testimony on MPLAT Tool

MPLAT is an important tool for Malay speaking population to screen and assess speech delays. Our speech therapist and myself find the tool easy to use and can provide an accurate idea on areas of difficulties that the child faces and their language developmental stages compared to their age peers. I would higly recommend the use of these tools in centers, early childhood set ups and definitely hospitals.

My experience conducting MPLAT was with standard 1-3 primary school students (age 7-9 years old) were:
Observations:
-It is related to our culture and academic syllabus
-The sentences used in the assessment are appropriate according to the age level
-When I compare with the other language assessment example MDLAK (Malaysian Developmental Language Assessment Kit), MPLAT is far better and clearer test. Information regarding children’s language and literacy is important for us, speech-language therapists to know, in order to target other words/structures in the next therapy.
-And when I compare MPLAT with international language assessments – the item are similar and MPLAT is like other international test as we can target to assess certain structures e.g passive sentences as in the grammar use just like the Clinical Evaluation Language Fundamental (CELF)
-The instruction given is clear even although some sentences are quite long
-I like the picture used because it is clear presented and culturally appropriate
-It is good that MPLAT have the scoring system in MPLAT.
Recommendations:
– I strongly recommend MPLAT to be widely used among SLPs in Malaysia.
-I am proud and satisfied with MPLAT. I believe that with MPLAT, SLTs can show the results of children’s language abilities to other professionals such as pediatricians and demonstrate our reliable and valid assessment findings.
– I strongly support that MPLAT be used very soon in all hospitals.
